Local Photographer Continues Winning Streak
It has only been six short months, but since relocating to Vero Beach, professional photographer J. Scott Kelly of Island Images Professional Photography Studio, Inc. has received six awards for his images through the Indian River Photo Club monthly print competitions. Out of these six images, Scott received two first place ribbons, two second place, one third place, and one honorable mention in all categories from color, black and white, and special technique.
Winners from these monthly competitions recently presented their award-winning prints to be judged in the photo club's "Best Picture of the Year" Competition. Scott continued his winning streak not only with each of his six monthly winning prints receiving ribbons for either first, second, third place or honorable mention in their categories, but also receiving the "Best Picture of the Year - Members Choice 2008" award for his black and white image of a father and son entitled "In Thy Father's Arms."
In addition to these awards, Scott recently entered two images in the Special Technique Division of the Indian River Photo Club's 2009 Photographic Print Exhibit. His scenic image entitled "Under the Seaway" received a second place ribbon and his artful image of a sundial entitled "¿Qué Hora Es?" took third place. This juried exhibit is currently on display in the Studio Gallery at the Vero Beach Museum of Art through January 4, 2009.
Scott said of his recent accomplishments, "Although it's nice to be recognized for my work, what I love most is creating images for others to enjoy."
Scott is a full-time professional photographer in Vero Beach with over 25 years of experience in the field. Winners Chosen in Island Images Photogenic Contest (Vero Beach)
On Saturday, September 20th, forty-nine adorable infants and children, from three months to twelve years old, came out to the Holiday Inn Oceanside in Vero Beach to support Children’s Miracle Network by taking part in a photogenic contest coordinated by Island Images Professional Photography Studio, Inc. Each contestant was photographed by Vero Beach photographer, J. Scott Kelly, and will receive a complimentary 5x7 of their best pose as a thank you for their donation to Children’s Miracle Network.The photographs will be judged with one boy and one girl from each of the four age categories being selected to be featured in upcoming print advertisements and promotional materials for Island Images. Each winner will also receive a $50.00 U. S. Savings Bond, a child’s portrait photography session, and an 8x10 Prestige Portrait Print. If the cute expressions on the children’s faces as they were being photographed are any indication,
the judging was VERY MUCH a difficult task!
Through the contestants’ entry fee donations, as well as additional monetary contributions received, the Island Images photogenic contest raised over $1,800
for Children’s Miracle Network.
Children’s Miracle Network is a non-profit alliance of more than 170 hospitals serving children throughout the United States and Canada. Funds contributed to Children’s Miracle Network benefit
Shands Children’s Hospital at the University of Florida.

Are you ready to take your interest in photography to the next level? Our photographic workshops are designed to take you from the basics of getting to know your equipment all the way to more advanced workshops for the serious amateur and beginning professional.Full-time professional photographer, J. Scott has over 25 years of experience and holds an honors degree in Photographic Technology from Florida Institute of Technology. A wide variety of workshops are offered for every level of photographic interest, including learning the basics of manual camera operation in the “Fundamentals 101” workshop, as well as workshops in basic studio lighting, organizing your images, an introduction to Photoshop, and the business of photography. For the homeschool student, we have designed a nine week course in the basics of photography and creating a work of art, which culminates with a Student Gallery Exhibit for family and friends.

recently held a “hair-raising” event, collecting hair donations
to benefit
Locks of Love.
This event was held on Monday, August 11th at Christanna’s Salon & Day Spa in Vero Beach. Salon owner, Nancy Demeter, and three of her talented hairstylists, Jolene Grant, Dee Kimberlin, and Crystal Stokes donated their time, not to just cut the hair of 10 generous donors, but also transform their looks, all to benefit a very worthy cause. Additional hair donations were also received at the event, which brought the number of donated ponytails to 13, totaling166 inches of hair. The longest single ponytail donated at Christanna’s was over 18 inches!

The reasons for giving their hair varied for each person who donated. Berit Fagan of Vero Beach, who donated 11 inches of hair, explained “I started growing my hair (to donate to Locks of Love) when a friend’s daughter was diagnosed with cancer. "Fountains and Bridges" we will meet through out Indian River and St. Lucie Counties of Central Florida to capture the beauty of these man-made structures at night. We probaly don't take much notice of them during the day but if they are lit nicely the beauty come from the darkness!!

"If Basic Studio Lighting Is Your Cup Of Tea"
This three hour, (1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.) workshop will introduce the photographer to the basics of studio lighting for product and/or still life settings. We will be photographing a simple TEA SET that could be seen in any display advertising or in your kitchen!We will start by learning how to set the stage and style a shot then light the scene by using one studio light and various reflectors. This could easily be duplicated in your home to light various still life scenes. Best of all you can also accomplish this same technique with a simple hand held flash unit that you would use with your camera everyday! (REMEMBER THERE IS ONLY ONE LIGHT IN THE SKY!)
